Academy Squads
Academy Squads are the first step for children in Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire who want to become club and/or competitive swimmers. You will be joining one of the most successful swimming clubs in the East Midlands while also continuing to attend your existing swimming lessons, this ensures that children have more pool time available to increase their level of progress.
We believe that fostering a love for swimming from an early age is essential for both personal growth and competitive success. Our coaches are all minimum Swim England Level 2 qualified and are dedicated to nurturing talent and encouraging children to reach their full potential through tailored training programs and consistent support.
There are three Academy Squad levels with all children starting in Bronze before moving to Silver and Gold, progression is based on the achievement of the Swim England Club Awards which are designed to help children to transition from swimming lessons into club and competitive swimming. On completion of Academy Gold, swimmers will be offered the opportunity to move into the Chesterfield Swimming Club performance pathway which regularly produces County, Regional and National champions.

How to join?
The entry level for Academy Bronze is from Swim England stage 7 lessons or equivalent.
We appreciate that not all swim schools follow the Swim England awards, so if you’re not sure what level your child is currently at, please speak with their swimming teacher or get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
Ideally, we are looking for children aged 7-10 years to start in Academy Bronze as they will have the best opportunity to progress into club swimmers and competitive athletes.
